Want to Be Someone Successful
Have you ever wondered why some people are successful and some are not? Of course there are various reasons why
this may be so, but consider all things equal, what separates the successful and the unsuccessful is: Action
One can have many ideas about doing many things to become successful. Perhaps you want to a very good marriage
relationship, make more money to do the things you want, find a better career or even run your own business and be
your own boss. You can dream, you can think, you can write it down, you can discuss it with your friends, you can
even scream about it and still never be successful: Action precedes success.
Two main reasons why people in our modern culture are not successful is due to complacency and fear. According
to the American Heritage® Dictionary the meaning of "complacency" is "A feeling of contentment or
self-satisfaction, especially when coupled with an unawareness of danger, trouble, or controversy." I know people
who would not take any action to help them. They would tend to agree with you that they need this or that but for
the moment they seem contented with their lot. For example, a person may want to eat better to gain better health,
but to get him to start changing his diet is harder than changing tires.
How does a person get out of complacency? First, one must be conscious of the current situation one is in and then
the second thing is to realize the consequences of not taking action. A good example I could think of if an
employee of a company who is making an average income for the last seven years of his career. He is not happy with
his job and felt he deserve better. Most people I have met would just "hang in there" and hope something better
happens tomorrow. Well, sometimes it does get better, but in today's competitive corporate world, it seldom happens
for most people. In fact, we see people getting fired due to company merge or down-sizing. If one could imagine
what it would be like to be in that situation to have to lose your job and its consequences, it may give you enough
motivation.
Fear causes us to not take action. Fear cause us not to call that admired person for a date, fear cause us not to
send in that resume for fear of rejection, fear cause us not to ask for that raise for fear of not getting it, fear
cause us to delay the business you dreamt of starting for fear of failure, and we could go on. Can we overcome fear
and be successful? Anthony Robbins in his book "UNLIMITED POWER" said our "greatest fears and limitations are
self-imposed. I love his example on how Colonel Sanders of KFC was able to take what he calls "massive action" and
his ability to people tell him "no" a thousand times.
Take action to overcome that one fear that grips yoiu and when you do you will emerge a greater person, and you
will never be the same again.
