Farmer's Market Savings

 Defining Moment
Farmers market not only provides you with fresh foods and vegetables but savings on your grocery bill as well. Its all about knowing what to look for, and how to shop right. Just a stroll down an aisle of a farmers market on a Saturday morning makes you feel refreshed, especially if you love to cook and the wide assortments of fresh ingredients present is a delight.

Farmers markets can save you money on your grocery bill because when you eat quality food, you no longer crave gourmet dine-out meals. For a similar price, you can cook savory dishes rather than eat tv dinners and pre-packaged foods. Its healthy and keeps your spirits high. Eating the right foods and fresh vegetables will save you money otherwise spent on nutrient supplements, vitamins, diet pills, and weight loss kits.

One way to save big money on farmers market food is to negotiate with the sellers. Most people selling their food want to sell in bulk and not a piece of fruit or vegetable at a time. Ask them how much will you save if you buy an entire box or case. You can arrange to divide this up with your relatives or close friends prior to the farmers market event.

Another way to save money on farmers market products is to arrive near closing, and get huge discounts when vendors are tired and getting ready to leave. They will sell it for half price to be able to just unload the last box so they can go home. Its a great savings for you.

Sometimes youll see the same sellers there week after week so its good to establish a rapport, be friendly, and loyal to a seller than sells certain food and vegetable items. For instance, there may be a dozen tomatoes sellers but if you have a good relationship with one and get a good or reasonable deal with then stay loyal to that seller every week. These sellers will remember you and offer you even better savings. They may even chat with you for a bit and share a recipe for the vegetable they sell. Or help you pick the best fruits and vegetable pieces. Or they may give you a good tip on how to preserve that particular type of fruit or vegetable.

It never hurts to make friends. I would never ask you to take advantage of anyone, especially farmers because farming is such a hard labor intensive occupation for very little pay. But sometimes theyll offer you deals to get rid of their produce because there might be too much harvested or huge excess they cant sell at the end of the day.
