Five Lessons a
Millionaire Taught Me
The five lessons a millionaire taught me, I
will pass on to you. I had met this very successful and down to
earth millionaire a few years ago when I was at a business
convention. He was one of the speakers but I didnt know that
when I first met him.
It was a company convention but not company paid. I was
paying for the whole 3-day event out of my own pocket, money
that I didnt have to spare.Three other co-workers and I decided
to share a room with 2 double beds to save on the cost of a
hotel room. But on the first night, the cousin of one of the
co-workers drove up to Vegas from LA to visit and took my spot.
They broke the news to me that there was no room for me. The
entire hotel was packed for the convention that weekend and the
other hotels were also sold out.
I was bummed to say the least. I didnt know what to do.
After moping around the lobby area this gentlemen came up to
me and asked if there was anything wrong. And I told him my
story. He said that he might have a spare room for me. I was
excited and relieved.
He then called two of his assistants over and told them to
move their stuff to his suite and offered up the keys to me. I
asked him, How much? I was afraid I couldnt afford it. And he
said, No charge. Take it.
I couldnt thank him enough. We talked for 2-3 hours and I
found out he was one of the guest speakers for tomorrows event.
He told me that he makes an average of $5 million a year and
had a net worth of $175 million and proceeded to tell me the
story of how he made it.
Here are the five lessons he taught me.
Lesson #1 is Persistence
He said he started his own business but didnt make over $1
million a year until after 10 years later. He stuck to it and
worked hard. He had no doubt in his mind that he would succeed
and carried with him a picture of the house and type of car he
wanted in his wallet.
Lesson #2 is to Give Generously without Expectation of
Getting Back
Giving to others feels good and somehow makes you feel like
you have more than you really do. Dont expect to get anything
in return, just do it to help others like you would want them
to help you if you were in trouble.
Lesson #3 Listen to Your Intuition and Heart
Follow your own intuition and what your heart tells you as
far as business and your career goes. If you have wanted to
branch out in a different direction or do something for a long
time, then its about time you do it. Go for it, life is too
short to wait and wonder what if.
If you dont know how to solve a certain problem, pray and
sit on it by letting your mind come up with a solution. Give it
a few days or hours to come up with a solution.
Lesson #4 Know Where You Came From
Never forget where you came from when you make it. Help
others trying to get to where you are, give advice freely, and
lend a hand if you can. Dont forget your family and friends and
those that helped you on your way. Be humble and always
grateful.
Lesson #5 Be Decisive and Forge Ahead
Be decisive and forge ahead despite obstacles. Be bigger
than your problems because you can overcome your obstacles no
matter how big. There are countless stories of people that are
in worse shape or situations do things that no one ever thought
possible. They make us believe that anything is possible and
achievable.
