Ways for Teens to Make Money

 Defining Moment
What are some ways for teens to make money? I know that there are all these dances and proms in high school that requires several hundred dollars total for everything (clothes, ride, flowers, pictures, entrance fee, etc.)

Also, most teens want to earn their spending money so theyre actively looking for summer internships and summer jobs. Some even hold down part time jobs during the school year.

If you cant get a job or if youre not over 16 and cant get hired then you can pick up a few ideas here.

Here are some ways for teens to make money:

  1. One of my friends started a party planning business at 15 years old. He also learned how to make balloon animals from balloons and learned where to get discount party supply rentals.

And printed out a bunch of business cards on his printer and passed them out. He made some money from that.

  2. Be a newspaper carrier. My brother did this for a few summers and made a little bit of money.

The only bad part was that he had to get up at like 5 or 6am to start folding newspapers and getting them delivered on his bike. There was a deadline and if you didnt meet it, they would charge you a $1 for being late or newspapers you forgot to deliver.

  3. Get a part time job at a relatives business. Sometimes, if you have aunts and uncles that own stores or have a business you can persuade them to hire you or pay you cash.

  4. The first few jobs I got as a teen and the jobs my brother got were because we knew someone else that worked there as well.

If you have a friend that has a job, see if there are any openings, you friend can say a few good things about you that might help you get hired. You need to remember to do a good job at the work place or your friend will regret having recommended you.

  5. Offer to do some kind of service for your neighborhood and pass out flyers or ring the doorbell and hand it to your neighbors directly.

Services you can do include: mowing the lawn, picking up dry cleaning, babysitting, babysitting their pets, watering their plants everyday, etc.

  6. Use your creativity to come up with something. Go set up a booth with your parents at a flea market and ask for your share of the profits. Sell all your old clothes, toys, comic books, etc. Whatever you sell thats yours you should be able to keep the money.

  7. Make flower leis and sell them outside where the graduation ceremonies are held. I used to live in Hawaii so flower leis and balloons are some gifts you give to new grads.

I dont know what people traditionally give as gifts at other states high school graduations. Make sure it's something people buy and give as gifts

  8. There were a few computer kids in my high school that started making websites for small businesses for extra money. I think they would charge $500-1000 for a website 8 years ago. This was when other web designers would charge $5,000-25,000 for a website. You have to price your services cheaper than what other professionals are doing it for.

  9. Now take a piece of paper and a pen and write down all the ideas you have of ways to make money. Then whichever idea sounds good and sounds like something you can do, go do it.
